It’s that time of year again- gearing up for Senior Photo Season! I love this time of year. The sun is out most days, the sunsets are beautiful, the weather is dry and it all adds up to the perfect recipe for amazing senior photos. So where are the most popular locations? Well check out today’s blog and see some of my favorite spots for senior shoots- Enjoy!
Favorite Urban Location- Georgetown, Wa: If you want an urban location for your senior pictures, this location has it all. Colorful graffiti walls, old brick buildings, and antique cars- just to name a few. Georgetown is a great little spot that is relatively small, easy to walk around and has a lot to offer. Here, Hailey has on solid colors to really pop off the bright colored walls. Add in her fun necklace and hat and her session was amazing. Click here to see more of Hailey’s Photos in downtown Georgetown- beautiful!
Most Dramatic Urban Location- Downtown Tacoma: Downtown Tacoma makes an amazing backdrop for Senior photos. The Glass Museum with it’s fun patterns, the Chihuly glass rising out of the water features- it all makes for a dramatic backdrop for pictures. There are a ton of textures, colors, and variations to make this location really a one-stop shop. Here I used this amazing glass window to frame beautiful Katie during her shoot. Her red accent dress popped off the neutral landscape- just gorgeous. Click here to see more of Katie’s Session– YAY!
Most Iconic Urban Location- Seattle’s Pike Place Market: Who doesn’t think of Pike Place Market when they hear Seattle, huh? Pike Place Market makes for an exciting Senior Session, let me tell you. In this location that is always buzzing with tourists and activity- if you are looking for fun, this is the location for you. Annie loves her city, so Pike Place was an easy fit for her. We kept her in neutral colors so she wouldn’t clash with all the craziness going on around her and added some fun accessories to match her style. Click here to see more of Annie’s session, and get ready to be WOWED!
Best Natural Beach- Saltwater State Park: Don’t want to be with all the tourists on a hot, summer day? Well check out Saltwater State Park. This beach has everything you would expect to find- tide pools, driftwood, and tall grasses, without all the beach umbrellas and sand buckets. The sunsets here are amazing, so make sure you plan your shoot at that amazing golden hour for the best pictures. Have fun!
Best Nature Location- Nisqually Wildlife Refuge: This is definitely one of my new favorite locations. The Nisqually Wildlife Refuge has it ALL. Open fields with grass, country roads, water, boardwalks, and two amazing white barns that make for an amazing backdrop. There is so much variety and colors and when the sun goes down, it has amazing soft light. McKayla’s country style and soft flowy dresses fit this location perfectly. This location is a must see, truly.
Best Bridge Location- Maplewood Roadside Park: Looking for an old rustic bridge with great an old timey feel? Then Maplewood Roadside Park in Renton is a great location. Here, Brayden is wearing a simple white dress which pops off the green and browns beautifully. This location has the bridge, greenery and trees, and the creek bed as long as the Cedar River isn’t running too high. Love!
Best Barn Location-Ft. Steilacoom: I would say about 50% of my seniors ask for a farm-type location and nowhere else delivers like the red barns of Ft. Steilacoom. This old military fort now uses this property for an amazing park to shoot senior pictures. There are the barns (of course) old silos, fun trees, and open fields of grass with amazing sunlight. Shelby brought some fun balloons and accessories to liven up her session at Ft. Steilacoom and the pictures came out amazing. Click here to see more of Shelby’s fun session– and get ready to smile!
Best Rustic Farm- The Old Mayflower Dairy Farm: Love the country look but want a more rustic feel? Well, the old Mayflower Dairy Farm may be the perfect location for you. With its old rustic barns, cool fences, and tall grass, this location is perfect for cute denim jackets, soft flowy dresses and cowgirl boots. Andria chose the Mayflower Dairy Farm for her location and it mixed great with her feminine, soft style. She started in a fun, romper and changed to a country vest and jeans, perfect for the location. Click here to see more of Andria’s Session– Yee Haw! (okay, I had to say it, couldn’t help myself).
Best Tall Grass- Clark Lake Park- Kent, WA: I am going to start by saying that I love shooting at Clark Lake Park. I use this location for a ton of my shoots and it never disappoints. It is quiet and unkept and perfect for soft, meadowy pictures like Isabel was looking for. This vintage girl wanted flowers, tall grass, and soft light and Clark Lake Park was perfect. Add in the lake and small pier and you have lots to choose from for backdrops. We started Isabel’s shoot in a vintage dress with muted tones and ended it with a colorful outfit and fun hat. The weather was perfect and Isabel’s expressive smile and love of the sunlight made for a session that was uniquely her own- and one of my favorites to date. Click here to see more of Isabel’s beautiful session– enjoy!
Best Variety Location- Chamber’s Bay: Can’t decide if you want country? Beachy? Urban? Well Chamber’s Bay may just be the location for you. This park has it all, open fields, tall grass, old rock quarries, train tracks, beaches and one of the coolest bridges I have seen. I did 2017 Tahoma Senior, Michelle McLoughlin there this year for her senior photos and she walked away with a huge variety of amazing shots. And now that the US Open has come and gone, I am looking forward to working with a lot more seniors here this year! Click here for Michelle’s beautiful session!
Best Country Rose Garden Location- Pt. Defiance Park: Want that English Rose Garden feel? Well, nothing is more stunning in the summer than the blooming rose garden at Pt. Defiance Park. Below Riley and Katie’s BFF session was in the rose garden and with its soft warm light, pops of color, and gorgeous glow, it is a perfect location. There is a beautiful lake, bridge, gazebo, and rose filled arches just steps away which gives you tons of variety for your images. Gorgeous!
Best Summer Color- The Lavender Fields: If you do your Senior pictures during the summer, don’t miss out on stunning backdrop that the Lavender Farms can offer. The largest farms are in Sequim and peak mid- July, but don’t worry because there are several, smaller farms in the Seattle metro area. Just be prepared, you may have to pay a premium price to do your session there, but it is worth it. Soft pastel purples mixed with golden light creates a romantic, feminine feel to your pictures. Add some fun accessories like a headband, fresh cut lavender, or a hat to make your session uniquely yours. Here, my 2017 Model Seniors are doing the Lavender Stylized Shoot and are having a blast up at Evergreen Valley Lavender Farm in Olympia, Wa. It’s a tradition for me to take my Seniors there each summer and it never disappoints!
Best Mountain Location- Mt. Rainier National Park: Nowhere else in the United States do you have the opportunity to get a backdrop like our gorgeous 14,490 foot volcano- Mt. Rainier. With its beautiful glacier capped peak and glorious summer wildflowers, this location is hard to beat. Just allow for some travel time and wait for a summer day when the clouds part so you can see her beautiful summit. It’s worth it!
Best Winter Location- Crystal Mountain: As I stated earlier, Seattle has amazing topography that creates wonderful variety in the landscape. During the winter months, don’t miss out on driving up to Crystal Mountain to do a fun winter shoot. Between the mountains, trees and snow, this area makes for amazing pictures. Below is our annual Senior Snow Stylized Shoot and the pictures are amazing!
So there you have it, some fun, traditional, off the wall, and crazy location ideas for your senior pictures. Where ever you decide to do your senior session, just be yourself and have fun. This is an amazing year, so congratulations and enjoy!
