Great Locations for your Senior Pictures

It’s that time of year again- gearing up for Senior Photo Season! I love this time of year. The sun is out most days, the sunsets are beautiful, the weather is dry and it all adds up to the perfect recipe for amazing senior photos. So where are the most popular locations? Well check out today’s blog and see some of my favorite spots for senior shoots- Enjoy!

Best Urban Location- Downtown Tacoma:  Downtown Tacoma makes an amazing backdrop for Senior photos. The Glass Museum with it’s fun patterns and the Chihuly glass rising out of the water features- it all makes for a dramatic backdrop for pictures. There are a ton of textures, colors, and variations to make this location really a one-stop shop. Click here to see more from Braeden’s Downtown Tacoma Senior Session!

Best Nature Location- Nisqually Wildlife Refuge: This is definitely one of my favorite locations. The Nisqually Wildlife Refuge has it ALL. Open fields with grass, country roads, water, boardwalks, and two amazing white barns that make for an incredible backdrop. There is so much variety and colors and when the sun goes down, it has amazing soft light. Lily’s country style and soft flowy dress fit this location perfectly. This location is a must see, truly.

Best Barn Location-Ft. Steilacoom: I would say about 50% of my seniors ask for a farm-type location and nowhere else delivers like the red barns of Ft. Steilacoom. This old military fort now uses this property for an amazing park to photograph senior pictures. There are the barns (of course) old silos, fun trees, and open fields of grass with amazing sunlight. Best Variety Location- Chamber’s Bay:  Can’t decide if you want country? Beachy? Urban? Well Chamber’s Bay may just be the location for you. This park has it all, open fields, tall grass, old rock quarries, train tracks, beaches and one of the coolest bridges I have seen. Whenever our seniors chose this location, they walk away with a huge variety of amazing shots. Click here for more from Amanda’s Session!

Best Country Rose Garden Location- Pt. Defiance Park: Want that English Rose Garden feel? Well, nothing is more stunning in the summer than the blooming rose garden at Pt. Defiance Park. There are beautiful gardens with soft, warm light and lots of color. It is a perfect location. There is also a beautiful lake, bridge, gazebo, and rose filled arches just steps away which gives you tons of variety for your images. Gorgeous! Best Summer Color- The Lavender Fields: If you do your Senior pictures during the summer, don’t miss out on stunning backdrop that the Lavender Farms can offer. The largest farms are in Sequim and peak mid- July, but don’t worry because there are several, smaller farms in the Seattle metro area. Just be prepared, you may have to pay a premium price to do your session there, but it is worth it. Soft pastel purples mixed with golden light creates a romantic, feminine feel to your pictures. Add some fun accessories like a headband, fresh cut lavender, or a hat to make your session uniquely yours. Our favorite spot? Evergreen Valley Lavender Farm in Olympia, Wa. It’s a tradition for me to take my Seniors there each summer and it never disappoints!

Best Pacific Northwest Mountain Location- Tipsoo Lake: Nowhere else in the United States do you have the opportunity to get a backdrop like our beautiful snow capped mountains than in the Pacific Northwest. Tall evergreens mixed with ragged mountain tops makes for a perfect Pacific Northwest feel. Just allow for some travel time and wait for a summer day when the clouds part so you can all the gorgeous scenery. It’s worth it! Check out more from Tessa’s Tipsoo Lake Session!

Best Snowy Location- Crystal Mountain: As I stated earlier, Seattle has amazing topography that creates wonderful variety in the landscape. During the winter months, don’t miss out on driving up to Crystal Mountain to do a fun winter shoot. Between the mountains, trees and snow, this area makes for amazing pictures. Below was some of the images from our Winter Ballet Session- the most popular of all of 2020!

So there you have it, some fun, traditional, off the wall, and crazy location ideas for your senior pictures. Where ever you decide to do your senior session, just be yourself and have fun.  This is an amazing year, so congratulations and enjoy!
