I was so excited to start my Tween Sessions this past week! Shelby DeVore was first up and picked Fort Steilacoom to match her casual, laid back style. Shelby is 14 years old and in 8th grade this year. She adores her family, her amazing dog Lily, and her best friend Abbie. I loved watching her giggle as she told stories of the summer that her and Abbie got to spent together- one of her fondest memories. We took several pictures “for Abbie” and snap chatted during her session so that Abbie could play a part in the afternoon. It was so fun to see the bond these two friends have and hear all the stories!
Shelby’s passion outside of school is dance and she spends a lot of her time working on her craft. She dances for EBT and is practicing hard to get ready for their spring performance of Alice in Wonderland. She loves her dance, and even though she was suffering from an injury, I was able to coax her to do some of her routine at the end of her session.
Shelby’s mom, Amy, is such a support to her. I have had the pleasure of working with Amy twice now and I love the way her girls are so secure in themselves and not afraid to be who they are. Amy describes her daughter as “tough and fights with all she has”. “She’s accepting of things that maybe my generation wasn’t, being nice to those who are sick, having compassion.” You can tell Amy is so proud of her daughters and embraces what makes each one of them unique. It’s rare for young women this age to have such a strong sense of self and it’s such a testament to Amy and Doug on how they support their girls.
Thanks so much, Shelby and Amy, for letting me get a small peak into your world. I had so much fun spending the afternoon with y’all. Enjoy the sneak peeks from her session!
“This picture is for Abbie!” ~Shelby
I loved how every time I told Shelby to look toward her mom, she would smile.
“Did that just happen?” Yes, Shelby is cracking up because I just tripped over a pipe. I never said I was graceful!
Amy’s word to describe her daughter is “fun”. With giggles like this, I think we can see why!
Amy describes her daughter as a “fighter”. “Ever since she was a baby, she’s been a fighter.” ~Mom
Shelby says the one thing she can’t live without is her “family”. Watching her giggle and laugh at her mom in this picture, I know she’s right.
It started to rain at the end of her session, so she embraced it and danced in the rain a bit.
